Video: Roses On My Table

May 01, 2012

Here’s a neat video about a collective house in Richmond, Virginia called the Wingnut Anarchist Collective. It seems like they have a lot of neat stuff going on: a sober space for events, a lending library, Food Not Bombs, Copwatch, gardening, etc. It’s sort of rare to see videos about these kind of projects, so it’s definitely worth watching:

Revenge of the Lefties: The 99% Spring and Occupy

May 01, 2012

When Occupy came on the scene back in October – both here in Grand Rapids and in the United States more generally – it was characterized by a broad skepticism (if not outright rejection) of electoral politics. Moreover for us as anarchists, there was also a healthy skepticism and rejection of “the left”–which was quite welcomed. Rather than “the usual suspects” of the activist scene in Grand Rapids, Occupy attracted people that were generally untouched by that crowd. At the same time, most of…

April 30, 2012

The May political prisoner birthdays calendar from the Chapel Hill Prison Books Collective is out. As always, please consider posting the calendar and/or using it to start a letter writing night. Sending a birthday card to these prisoners is a great way to let them know that their contributions to the struggle have not been forgotten. New Zine: Breaking the Barricades

April 13, 2012

We’ve released a new zine titled “Breaking the Barricades: The Carnival Against Breaking the Barricades: The Carnival Against Capitalism at the Quebec City FTAA 2001Capitalism at the 2001 Quebec City FTAA.” It’s a history zine that tells the story of what happened at the protests. There is more that could be said on the protests – in many ways the high point of anarchist anti-summit resistance in the early 2000s – but this is a good starting point. From the introduction: “This zine is an account…

“The ABCs of Occupy” Coloring Book: A Fun Project from Occupy Grand Rapids

April 10, 2012

The ABCs of Occupy CoverWe’re excited about a new “unofficial” project that has come out of Occupy Grand Rapids: “The ABCs of Occupy: A Coloring Book for the 99%.” It’s a coloring book designed to promote and explain the broad collection of ideas that make up Occupy. As an example, “A” is for the “awesome anarchists” who taught Occupy consensus: On a more serious note, it’s really interesting to read in terms of how anarchist ideas and concepts have permeated Occupy Grand Rapids. We also…

It’s an exploration of the “Occupy” phenomenon – rooted in the experience of some folks in Oakland – and how Occupy relates to “the Left.” It starts by looking at the debate over “violence” and “non-violence” and argues that there is a more fundamental issue…
